Be Prepared for Your New Baby: A Checklist for New Parents to Be
by: Amanda Pinkston

If you are expecting a new baby you have probably already been preparing for your little one for quite some time. Packing for the hospital and preparing your home for the new baby are the most important things you can do to make your transition from the hospital back home smoother. Here are some preparation tips that I found the most helpful before the birth of my daughter.

Pack for the Hospital

Use the checklist below as a guide when you pack your bags for your hospital stay. A checklist will ensure that you do not forget to bring something important to the hospital. Before you pack, check with the hospital to see what is provided to you to avoid over packing.

For Mommy:

( ) Socks
( ) Pajamas (a gown should be provided to you in the hospital but your own pajamas will make you feel more at home and comfortable)
( ) Maternity clothes to go home in (your tummy doesn’t magically disappear after delivery-maternity clothes will be the most comfortable to travel home in)
( ) Books/magazines
( ) Contacts/Glasses
( ) Contact case/cleaning solution
( ) Toothbrush/toothpaste
( ) Shampoo/conditioner
( ) Hair brush and styling products
( ) Make up (for those after delivery visitors)
( ) Labor supplies (massage items, aromatherapy candles-whatever you plan on using to make your delivery easier)
( ) Purse/wallet
( ) Sanitary pads
( ) Birthing Plan
( ) Any hospital paperwork required for check in
( ) Other_______________________________________________

For Daddy:

( ) Games
( ) Books/Magazines
( ) Camera/Camcorder
( ) Change of clothes
( ) Pajamas
( ) Cell phone (or change for pay phones)
( ) Wallet
( ) Other_______________________________________________

For Baby:

Typically the hospital will provide you with diapers, wipes, clothes for the new baby. However, it is always a good idea to be over prepared rather than under prepared. Here are some suggestions:

( ) Coming home outfit
( ) Diapers (usually newborns will comfortably fit into preemie diapers for the first week or two after birth)
( ) Wipes
( ) Blankets (thickness should depend on the weather)
( ) Hand sanitizer (for visitors)

Also, be sure to have the baby’s car seat secured in your vehicle. The hospital will not release you and your baby unless you have a car seat properly installed.

Prepare Meals in Advance

The best advice I received prior to having my daughter was to make sure that I had plenty of easy meals ready to go once we brought her home from the hospital. The easiest way to stock up on ready to serve meals is to over cook when preparing dinner before the baby is born and then freeze the leftovers.

If you can find the time, spend a whole day cooking meals to freeze. If you would like recipes that you can use, check out free printable recipes at The Craft Cafe (www.recipes.thecraftcafe.com). There you will find recipes for lasagna, meatballs, mushroom barley soup and many other recipes that are perfect to freeze for a later time.

Clean/Prep Nursery

To ensure that your baby has a clean and healthy environment. Take a weekend to thoroughly clean your house. Be sure to dust furniture, sanitize toys, clean the bathroom, vacuum, organize and perform any other cleaning that you will not have time to do once the baby arrives.

Baby Sleeping Schedule – 7 Tricks To Make Your Baby Sleep

August 24, 2009 by admin

Having a baby could be a shock to your sleep schedule. You will find yourself waking up every few hours to feed your baby, which will make getting through the day a little difficult. There are tips and tricks to follow that will make getting through the night easier for parents and baby.

1. Be flexible. This isn?t just for your own schedule, but you want to be flexible in the way the baby is going to sleep. Babies are going to respond differently to treatments. If your baby likes a song, sing a song. If your baby likes the sound of your voice, read a book. You can many different ideas that can help get a child to sleep.

2. Develop a plan that will help you and the baby. Put down when you want your baby going to sleep for the night. Also, set a timetable as to when they should be taking their naps during the day. Set a schedule, but be flexible in that schedule. If one way isn?t working for your child, then try something different.

3. Create a nightly routine for the baby. This could mean different things such as a warm bath, cozy pajamas and singing the child to sleep. Once you find a schedule that works for the baby, stick to it. Changing the sleeping routine could confuse the baby and create unneeded stress, which will make sleeping difficult.

4. Keep consistent bedtimes. The baby will get used to falling asleep around the same time every night. This will also help your baby sleep longer and get through the night better.

5. Get the child to understand the difference between day and night rituals. Daytime is for playing while night is for sleeping. When the baby naps during the day, turn the lights down and try to keep light out. Have them think of it as night whenever they are sleeping.

6. Ensure your baby gets feedings on time. If your child misses a feeding, they could wake up hungry in the middle of the night. A crying, cranky baby is startling during your own sleep. Don?t let the baby get too hungry.

7. Make sure the bedroom is comfortable to sleep in. Regulate the temperature, turn down the lights and get a humidifier if the room gets too dry. Having a comfortable room will make sleeping easier for the baby. It will also help your baby sleep through the night.

Imagine how you like to sleep and what is comfortable for you. Your baby isn?t much different. They just like to eat a lot more. For your own sake, you might want to find time to take naps for yourself. If there is more than one caregiver, perhaps you can both take turns napping when you come from work to help ease each other?s lack of sleep.

New Born Baby Health

August 22, 2009 by admin

Breastfeeding a newborn baby is very important towards a newborn baby health. But how many times should a new mother breastfeed her baby?

Initially, your baby will want to feed between eight and twelve times a day. This is because it has a very small stomach and can only eat a small amount at a time and as you will become aware very quickly it will process the food very quickly into its diaper.

As he or she grows, however, so will their stomach and the time between meals will become longer. As a parent, the most welcome effect of this is that they will begin to wake less often in the night wishing to be fed. However, real life is never so simple, so you may have a few false starts before you eventually reach the stage where your child is not waking you most nights.

Part of this process is weaning your child. There will inevitably be some resistance from the baby in this respect. They have become attuned to being fed at a certain time each night, and a change in this routine will be an unwelcome one they are babies after all, and the concept of change is in a lot of respects a completely alien one for them. Sooner or later it has to happen, and the best way to ensure it is a success is to schedule things so that they are fed shortly before you go to bed for the night thus hopefully encouraging them to sleep through to the morning.

As your baby grows, you will find that they can eat more at one sitting, so take advantage of this by making each meal time more thorough and letting them eat their fill each time.

colic newborn baby

Colic newborn baby is a baby problem when in which a healthy newborn baby cries or screams frequently and for extended periods without any discernible reason.

Colic in Baby – What’s a Parent to Do?

newborn colic baby

Colic in baby is a difficult issue for any parent having to deal with it. It’s heartbreaking to watch your infant struggle in pain thinking that there’s little you can do. The truth is that parents can aid their newborns when they have colic. If your baby is having trouble sleeping, is full of gas and cries too often, there are a few safe and effective remedies you can try.

You can purchase it at any local drugstore or in most grocery stores. When it was first introduced this concoction contained alcohol and many brands sold today still do. Check the label before buying a bottle to ensure the one you use doesn’t. Follow the directions for dosage on the label. Although it doesn’t work for every infant, most parents of a colic baby do give it a try.

Holding your baby can actually be the best remedy if he or she is fussing. Some people will tell you that holding your infant too much will lead to it being spoiled. That’s simply not the case if it’s trying to deal with colic. Holding the baby against you and walking around the room can help the infant settle down. The movement can release the gas that is causing colic in baby. If you have to enlist the help of family and friends to do this if you need a rest. They’ll jump at the chance to cuddle with the newborn.

Newborn baby feeding

August 21, 2009 by admin

Newborn baby breast feeding is very important. Breast feeding can not only help building newborn baby immune system but also provides most of the best nutrition to baby.

With a newborn baby in the house, especially if it is your first, there is so much to learn that you simply cannot replicate with classes, books and additional parenting aids. Every baby that is born will have its own unique traits, and although you can learn a lot from other parents, from books, from TV and a wealth of other sources, there is always the fact that what works with one baby may not necessarily work with another. However, this should not be viewed as an apocalyptic warning. As a parent, you will learn quickly how to deal with your baby, and they will form an attachment to you.

The question of how often to feed a baby is one that often arises for new parents. With regard to how often they need feeding, it seems to differ slightly but is generally between two and three hours between feeds. At this stage of their life, any baby is programmed to sleep for short periods and awaken to be fed at such intervals.

This is why parents will talk about sleepless nights at the early stage of parenthood. As the child grows older, they will of course begin to go longer between meals, but at an early age, with no ability to articulate their needs nor understand what people are saying, they will find their own way to make things clear to you. This regularity of needing to be fed is why many parents keep the baby in the same bed as them in the early stages.

Avoid Sore Nipples While Breast-Feeding

One of the most common problems faced by breast feeding mothers is the sore nipple and the related pain. Sore nipple arises due to the improper positioning of the baby for latching or if the baby is not sucking properly.

Bond With Your Baby Without Breastfeeding

Breast milk is not a magic potion that creates a secure bond. Formula Moms can behave the same way as breastfeeding mothers.

Different Postures for Breast-Feeding

Breastfeeding makes your baby healthy and give him strength to fight against the diseases and infection. For feeding your baby you must find a position comfortable to both. Otherwise the baby won’t.

How to do your baby bathing?

Bathing a newborn baby is fun but it takes lots of patience.

To give your baby a decent bath there are a few things that you must stick to, aside from which you have more or less free rein to do as you wish. The potential for mishaps is taken as read, and no parent will want to take undue risks when washing their baby, so staying away from those is more or less self-explanatory.

For simplicity, it is necessary simply to avoid lifting the baby too much soap and water do not make for easy handling, and dropping your child is a constant and terrifying fear for parents prevention is, in this case, a straightforward matter.

In the first six months of your baby s life, a water depth level of approximately five inches will be fine. The temperature should be somewhere in the region of body temperature slightly above is best (around 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) as the water will cool from the moment it is in contact with the bath.

You can then put your baby in the bath, using one hand to hold up his or her neck and head and avoid it getting bumped. You then wash him or her with a soft handcloth and a small amount of soap. Moistened cotton wool should be used to clean their face, and to moisten any dried mucus before wiping that away.

Rinsing away all soap and any remaining dirt requires a clean facecloth, and then you can dry him or her with a small towel which you can use to wrap him or her. Then you can use a mild moisturizer in order to keep his or her skin soft.

Cute baby clothes

 new born baby

New born baby is always very cute and sweet. Hence, how to clothing your cute baby to bring the most out of your baby clothes is an important thing to do everyday.

A newborn baby, although one of the most incredible joys in a person s life, can also present something of a headache. The spending that is required to keep a , happy and well-clothed is something that can really mount up and make any parent panic a little bit.

There is no doubt whatsoever that some unscrupulous individuals will try to take advantage of this by selling baby gear at extortionate prices and trying to emotionally blackmail parents into spending that kind of money if you really care for your baby, you ll pay whatever it takes being the rather grubby subtext of their sales pitch.

Paying these people no heed can be difficult, but it really is the best option in the long run. Anyone who tries to tell you that your baby needs what they are selling has run out of more inventive sales techniques and is just a money-grabbing ghoul. You can dress a baby in hand-me-down clothes and they will not be adversely affected physically or mentally.

It is one of the last points at which you can observe a total absence of direct peer pressure your baby doesn t care a jot if their clothes are not designer and you have not spent every penny you have on them. Let your baby s happiness be the only important factor in all of this some shyster s sales pitch will be no help to anyone but themselves. Giving them what they need does not necessitate spending untold sums on supposedly state-of-the-art baby clothes.

how do you often change baby diaper

August 19, 2009 by admin

How often do you change your baby’s diaper?

The question of when to change a baby’s diaper is one that will give a lot of parents pause for thought. If you are to change a diaper every time a baby goes to the toilet in it, the simple fact is that you will end up spending so much on diapers that you will have little left to spend on anything else. Leave it too long, however, and the results are more harrowing than any impact to your bank balance. There is no gentle way to say this, but the bacteria in faeces, when combined with urine, will cause diaper rash – and this is something that anyone who has seen it will do their best to avoid.

For starters, it is important to change your baby’s diaper whenever he or she defecates. This is important for hygiene and comfort, as your baby will be in some discomfort if he or she is made to sit in a dirty diaper. When your baby defecates – and you will know when this has happened – you must change their diaper as promptly as possible. Although urine poses less of a problem, it is still not desirable to leave a child in a diaper that is too wet, even a highly absorbent disposable one.

On average, babies will urinate every one to three hours and defecate several times a day. At regular intervals you must therefore change the diaper. It will save money if you use cloth diapers, however it is important to have several diapers and a washing rotation so that there is always a clean diaper around – so it really is a question of expense versus work.
